Sock monkey party: August is 1!
► Posted under parties for boys, party features, party games & activities, sock monkey by Heather
Every now and then a party comes along that just absolutely takes my breath away (and then, shortly after, makes me do a happy dance). : ) This is definitely one of those parties! It’s has modern style but a warm, vintage feel; it’s sophisticated but sweet; and it’s ten kinds of beautiful but not impossible to re-create. Amazing, amazing work by crafty mama and stylish interior decorator Courtney Adams, with photography by Sara Barnes, Wallflower Photographer. Enjoy!
Courtney made a balloon wreath using a tutorial from HowDoesShe.com. Adding a piece of a pennant banner to the center is such an inventive touch!
I absolutely love Courtney’s choice for a backdrop – the oversized polka dots are whimsical and fun, but they also make such a modern and bold statement! She said she found the fabric for a steal at IKEA.
The red and white cake stands are a perfectly simple presentation, and the classic bottles of Dr. Pepper are so charming and old-fashioned.
Chocolate-striped ribbon contrasts beautifully with the red polka dots on the buffet cards.
Courtney hand-painted the polka dots and stripes onto white lanterns to give them more character. LOVE them!
A vintage popcorn stand is a really adorable addition to the party! The popcorn boxes are decorated with printable circles.
The fabric that was used as the dessert table backdrop was also used as a table runner.
The candy jars, paper straws, and mason jars are all lovely vintage-inspired touches.
Now this is cute. Courtney made a sock monkey puppet activity station using paper bags, yarn, googley eyes, and construction paper!

I adore August’s little smash cake so much. It’s my sock monkey, in frosting! It just makes me smile!
The perfect little photo-op! The rug that August is sitting on is a cheapie from IKEA – great for pictures, then no big deal when it gets messed up by all that icing.
Present time! August is as cute as can be. : ) His personalized seersucker outfit is from Buds ‘n’ Branches.
The perfect gift for a sock monkey birthday boy – a sock monkey jack in the box!
Such a stunning party – thank you so much, Courtney! Happy birthday to August!

Love this!! Where did you source those adorable, red popcorn boxes?

What drink did you use as your monkey juice?
Heather - Chickabug says:
I'll ask Courtney what she served, but it looks like fruit punch to me!
Heather - Chickabug says:
Courtney says, "fruit juice... I think it was minute maid but any red juice will work!"

I LOVE the sock monkey puppet idea. I'm planning my son's 1st birthday party & thought that would be a cute idea for the kids to do at the party. Do you have a pattern for them or do you know where I can get the pattern? The party looked like a lot of fun!
Heather says:
Hi Christina! Courtney (the mom who planned the party) came up with the sock monkey puppet craft all on her own, no template. Kind of amazing! It's on my list to make a template for the puppets, though - check back soon! : )
Jamie says:

Hi Heather!
I LOVE the sock monkey craft idea and my son's 1st birthday party in July will be this theme. Is the template available yet? Thanks!
Heather says:
I'm posting tomorrow! : )
lindsey says:
where did you get the template for the snack cards??
Heather says:
Hi Lindsey! I sell printable buffet cards in my store: www.etsy.me/sock_monkey_theme
If you'd like the cards to be exactly like those in the pictures, individual personalization is available for a small fee (I had added all the food names to the cards - otherwise you would need to hand-write your menu items after you print the plain buffet card file).
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! : )
